Venus DSC line
Love and partnership. The Venus DSC line (Descendant, often written DC) runs through the places where Venus was setting on the western horizon when you were born.

What the Venus DSC line means
This is the line most people ask about. Venus setting draws partners, friendships and alliances that are warm, affectionate and often lasting; many meet a significant other within reach of it. Business partnerships tend to be cordial and profitable. The caveat is passivity: relationships can be so agreeable that nobody raises the hard questions.
The Venus DSC line is about who you meet: on it, the people who come into your life tend to be warm, attractive and well disposed towards you. Lovers, yes, but also close friends, business partners and collaborators.
Its gifts come through other people, so it rewards getting out of the house. Accept the introduction, go to the dinner. Partnerships formed here, romantic or commercial, are usually cordial and generous on both sides, and it's a good line for signing contracts where goodwill matters.
What it won't do is hand you a partner. Moving to your Venus DSC changes the climate you meet people in; you still have to meet them.
Where it struggles is honesty. A relationship that never has a row can drift for years without either of you saying what you want, so if you meet someone here, have the awkward conversation about money, children or where you'll live while it's still easy to have.
Where it runs
The Venus DSC line is a curve, not a straight line. It crosses the equator 90° of longitude east of your Venus MC line. Away from the equator it swings towards the IC line in the hemisphere Venus was on that day (north or south of the celestial equator) and towards the MC line in the other, and it ends where it meets them. Everywhere on it, Venus was setting when you were born.
Venus's declination, how far north or south of the celestial equator it sits, decides where its rising and setting lines stop: at 90° of latitude minus the declination. For births between 1930 and 2025 it ran from 27.3° S to 27.8° N, so in some charts those lines end as close to the equator as about 62° of latitude, north or south. Beyond that point Venus didn't rise or set at all on the day you were born, while the MC and IC lines carry on to the poles.
Distance and birth time
A line is a band, not a wall. Zenith Map's scores count a line in full on it, about 60% at 250 km, about 14% at 500 km and not at all beyond 1,000 km. Astrocartographers draw the edge in different places; the methodology page gives the reasoning for this one.
Every line in a chart moves west by a quarter of a degree of longitude for each minute later the birth: about 28 km at the equator and 14 km at 60° latitude. A time rounded to the nearest quarter hour can put your Venus DSC line up to about 200 km from where it's drawn, which is why the map draws bands when you say the time is approximate.
Questions
Is the Venus DSC line the best line for love?
It's the line most associated with finding a partner, because the Descendant is the angle of relationships and Venus the planet of love. The Venus ASC line is romantic too, but it's about how you come across, not who turns up. How it plays out still depends on the other lines nearby and on Venus in your natal chart.
Do I have to live on my Venus DSC line for it to work?
No. Astrocartographers read effects from visits as well as from moves, and a line fades with distance rather than stopping at an edge. In Zenith Map's scores a line counts in full on it, about 60% at 250 km and not at all beyond 1,000 km.
Can a Venus DSC line be bad?
Its problems are usually mild: relationships that stay pleasant but shallow, avoiding conflict, giving way to keep the peace. Where Venus is in hard aspect to Saturn, Mars or Pluto in the natal chart, those tensions are read as turning up in relationships here as well.
