Venus in astrocartography

Venus is the planet people go looking for first. It's love and friendship, but also taste, pleasure, money that comes easily and the knack of being liked. On a relocation map it shows up as four lines, one for each angle, and each sends those themes through a different part of life: work and reputation on the MC, home on the IC, your own body and manner on the Ascendant, the people you pair up with on the Descendant.

Venus lines are rarely hard work, which is their weakness as well as their charm. Things go smoothly enough that effort slips, spending creeps up and difficult conversations get put off. And a Venus line is only as sweet as the Venus in your natal chart: if yours is square Saturn, that square will be waiting for you on the line too. Check what else runs nearby before you pack.

Venus MC line: admired and well placed

Venus overhead is one of the friendliest career lines. You are liked before you are judged, doors open through charm and taste, and work in design, beauty, hospitality, art, diplomacy or anything that trades on appeal tends to reward you.

Venus DSC line: love and partnership

This is the line most people ask about. Venus setting draws partners, friendships and alliances that are warm, affectionate and often lasting; many meet a significant other within reach of it.

Where the lines run

Venus's declination, how far north or south of the celestial equator it sits, decides where its rising and setting lines stop: at 90° of latitude minus the declination. For births between 1930 and 2025 it ran from 27.3° S to 27.8° N, so in some charts those lines end as close to the equator as about 62° of latitude, north or south. Beyond that point Venus didn't rise or set at all on the day you were born, while the MC and IC lines carry on to the poles.
