Pluto DSC line
All-consuming others. The Pluto DSC line (Descendant, often written DC) runs through the places where Pluto was setting on the western horizon when you were born.

What the Pluto DSC line means
Pluto setting draws powerful, transformative, sometimes controlling partners, and relationships that change you permanently and are rarely forgotten. Passion and loyalty run high; so do jealousy, secrecy and contests of will, often with people who have their own hold on money or power. Enter with self-awareness, and keep something that is yours alone.
Everyone you face one to one falls under this angle: lovers and spouses, business partners, the person across the negotiating table, open rivals. With Pluto there, whoever sits opposite you tends to be formidable, and the relationships that form are the kind that change the direction of a life.
Disclosure is the price of entry. Bonds on a Pluto DSC go deep fast, and secrets, even small ones, sit badly in them. Talk early about money, about past relationships, about who decides what. Honesty of that kind gets repaid in uncommon loyalty.
Watch the balance of power more than the passion. On this line one person easily ends up holding the money, the information or the final say, and it isn't always the other one.
Some look for the line deliberately: therapists and coaches whose work happens one to one, people who would rather have one serious bond than several easy ones, and anyone tired of relationships that stay on the surface.
Where it runs
The Pluto DSC line is a curve, not a straight line. It crosses the equator 90° of longitude east of your Pluto MC line. Away from the equator it swings towards the IC line in the hemisphere Pluto was on that day (north or south of the celestial equator) and towards the MC line in the other, and it ends where it meets them. Everywhere on it, Pluto was setting when you were born.
Pluto's declination, how far north or south of the celestial equator it sits, decides where its rising and setting lines stop: at 90° of latitude minus the declination. For births between 1930 and 2025 it ran from 23.5° S to 24.1° N, so in some charts those lines end as close to the equator as about 66° of latitude, north or south. Beyond that point Pluto didn't rise or set at all on the day you were born, while the MC and IC lines carry on to the poles.
Distance and birth time
A line is a band, not a wall. Zenith Map's scores count a line in full on it, about 60% at 250 km, about 14% at 500 km and not at all beyond 1,000 km. Astrocartographers draw the edge in different places; the methodology page gives the reasoning for this one.
Every line in a chart moves west by a quarter of a degree of longitude for each minute later the birth: about 28 km at the equator and 14 km at 60° latitude. A time rounded to the nearest quarter hour can put your Pluto DSC line up to about 200 km from where it's drawn, which is why the map draws bands when you say the time is approximate.
Questions
Is the Pluto DSC line dangerous?
No. The Pluto Descendant is an intense line: relationships here go deep quickly and bring up trust, control, jealousy and who holds the power. That makes it demanding, and for anyone after a bond that changes them it's the reason to go. How heavy it feels depends on Pluto's aspects in your natal chart, especially to Venus, Mars and the Moon.
Is the Pluto DSC line good for love?
It's a line for depth and passion, and the wrong one for anything light. The Pluto DSC brings partners who change you, bonds that are hard to walk away from and loyalty that runs high on both sides. It asks for honesty about jealousy and control, yours as well as theirs.
What kind of partner does the Pluto DSC line attract?
Astrologers describe them as intense, private and perceptive, often with power of their own through money, position or sheer force of personality. They tend to change your life and expect a great deal in return. Business partners and rivals met on a Pluto DSC fit the same description.
Should I avoid my Pluto DSC line?
Only if what you want from relationships is ease. The Pluto DSC is the place for serious bonds and serious opponents, which some people want and others don't, at least not yet. If it runs near a city you love, look at Pluto's natal aspects and the other lines nearby first; a line is a band you can stand at the edge of, and its effect weakens with distance.
