Pluto IC line

Deep roots, deep changes. The Pluto IC line (Imum Coeli) runs through the places where Pluto was at the bottom of its daily arc when you were born.

What the Pluto IC line means

With Pluto beneath you, the private life goes through transformations: family secrets surface, homes are rebuilt or lost and rebuilt, and attachments run very deep. It can be profoundly regenerating for those ready to change, and oppressive for those who are not.

The IC is the chart's basement: ancestry, childhood, the patterns you inherited before you could choose them. Pluto there digs, and what it turns up is family history, often old: a story that was never told, a resemblance you'd rather not see, the reason a grandparent never spoke about a certain town.

Houses follow suit. A renovation on a Pluto IC tends to go back to the brickwork, and who holds the keys, who sets the rules and whose house it really is are questions that come up early and stay up.

Some choose the line for this: to face a family pattern and end it, or to put down roots where nobody knew them before. As a weekend cottage it is usually more work than rest.

Where it runs

The Pluto IC line runs from pole to pole too, half a world away from the Pluto MC line. Everywhere on it, Pluto was on the meridian at the bottom of its daily arc when you were born.

Distance and birth time

A line is a band, not a wall. Zenith Map's scores count a line in full on it, about 60% at 250 km, about 14% at 500 km and not at all beyond 1,000 km. Astrocartographers draw the edge in different places; the methodology page gives the reasoning for this one.

Every line in a chart moves west by a quarter of a degree of longitude for each minute later the birth: about 28 km at the equator and 14 km at 60° latitude. A time rounded to the nearest quarter hour can put your Pluto IC line up to about 200 km from where it's drawn, which is why the map draws bands when you say the time is approximate.

Questions

Is the Pluto IC line a good place to live?

Probably not, if you want an easy, quiet home. On a Pluto IC private life changes deeply: family matters come to the surface, the house gets rebuilt and attachments run strong. For someone who wants to deal with their past or start again at the root, that is the point of living there.

Does the Pluto IC line bring up family secrets?

That's the classic reading. The IC is the angle of roots and ancestry and Pluto the planet of what's hidden, so the line is associated with family history coming to light: an untold story, a pattern handed down, an old loyalty that turns out to bind. Facing it is often the point of choosing the line.

Can you live on a Pluto line?

Yes. Pluto lines are intense rather than harmful: they bring deep change, strong attachments and questions of power and control into whichever part of life the angle governs. Living on one goes best with a reason to be there and an honest look at what Pluto does in your natal chart.
