Mars IC line
A restless base. The Mars IC line (Imum Coeli) runs through the places where Mars was at the bottom of its daily arc when you were born.

What the Mars IC line means
With Mars beneath you, home is where the energy goes. Renovation, physical work, arguments and strong family dynamics all tend to intensify. It can be a productive line for building something from the ground up, and a hard one for peace at home. Make room for exertion so the heat has somewhere to go.
Mars at the bottom of the chart rarely gives you a quiet house, and the evenings you meant for rest go into the walls instead. The IC also stands for parents, ancestry and where you come from, so this line is sometimes read as the place where you finally break from a family pattern. The push to do that can be real here. The conversations that go with it are rarely calm.
Anyone who needs home to be the calm part of life will find it harder going: shift workers, people coming out of a rough few years, a couple who already argue. A restless home leaks into everything else, since the IC sits under the whole relocated chart. If you're weighing the line as a base, stay through a winter rather than a week. Almost any Mars line feels good in the first week; the friction shows once the boxes are unpacked.
Where it runs
The Mars IC line runs from pole to pole too, half a world away from the Mars MC line. Everywhere on it, Mars was on the meridian at the bottom of its daily arc when you were born.
Distance and birth time
A line is a band, not a wall. Zenith Map's scores count a line in full on it, about 60% at 250 km, about 14% at 500 km and not at all beyond 1,000 km. Astrocartographers draw the edge in different places; the methodology page gives the reasoning for this one.
Every line in a chart moves west by a quarter of a degree of longitude for each minute later the birth: about 28 km at the equator and 14 km at 60° latitude. A time rounded to the nearest quarter hour can put your Mars IC line up to about 200 km from where it's drawn, which is why the map draws bands when you say the time is approximate.
Questions
Is the Mars IC line bad for home life?
It's read as lively rather than peaceful: more projects, more energy in the house and quicker tempers in the family. That fits a household that likes to be busy, or a home that needs work. It's a harder fit if you want home to be where you rest.
Is the Mars IC line good for renovating a house?
Renovation is the classic use of this line. Mars underfoot puts its energy into physical work on a home: building, stripping back, clearing land, starting from a shell. Arguments about how to do it come with the energy, so it helps when the household agrees the plan before the work starts.
How is the Mars IC line different from the Mars ASC line?
The IC is private: the effort and the friction show up at home and in the family, and strangers notice little of it. The ASC is personal and on show. It changes how you move, act and come across to everyone you meet, from the first day.
