Mars MC line
Drive and competition. The Mars MC line (Midheaven) runs through the places where Mars was at the top of its daily arc when you were born.

What the Mars MC line means
Mars overhead gives your work edge and speed. You get things done, win competitions, and are known as someone who pushes. It suits sport, entrepreneurship, surgery, engineering and any field where decisiveness is rewarded. The same heat makes enemies: conflicts with authorities and colleagues flare quickly here, so choose your fights.
In practice the Mars MC line suits people who'd rather run something than report to someone. Most of the friction lands on whoever sits above you: a manager who feels pushed, a board that thinks you move too fast. If you're self-employed, on commission or leading a team with a clear target, the drive works for you. Two rungs down in a slow organisation, it's more like a running argument with the org chart.
Mars is a sprint more than a marathon. Think of the line as a place for a push of a year or three: a launch, a fight for a promotion, a competitive season, a business that needs getting off the ground. Staying for decades is a different question, and then it matters whether a Jupiter or Saturn line runs nearby, the first to give the work room, the second to give it a shape that lasts.
The name you make here is for nerve. That helps in fields that reward it and gets awkward in ones that prize tact, where being known as the one who pushes can count against you when promotions come round.
Where it runs
The Mars MC line runs from pole to pole along a single meridian of longitude. Everywhere on it, Mars was on the meridian at the top of its daily arc when you were born. Your Mars IC line is the other half of the same circle, 180° of longitude away.
Distance and birth time
A line is a band, not a wall. Zenith Map's scores count a line in full on it, about 60% at 250 km, about 14% at 500 km and not at all beyond 1,000 km. Astrocartographers draw the edge in different places; the methodology page gives the reasoning for this one.
Every line in a chart moves west by a quarter of a degree of longitude for each minute later the birth: about 28 km at the equator and 14 km at 60° latitude. A time rounded to the nearest quarter hour can put your Mars MC line up to about 200 km from where it's drawn, which is why the map draws bands when you say the time is approximate.
Questions
Is the Mars MC line good for career?
Mars overhead favours careers that reward speed and nerve: competitive fields, running your own business, physical or high-pressure work, anything judged on results. The price is friction with bosses and rivals, so it works best for people who can live with some conflict, or who answer to nobody but themselves.
Does the Mars MC line mean conflict with your boss?
That is how the tradition reads it. The MC is the angle of authority as well as career, so Mars there brings friction with whoever is above you: managers, senior partners, clients with the power to say no. It eases when you run your own work and sharpens in hierarchies that move slowly.
Is the Mars MC line good for starting a business?
Starting things is what Mars does best, and on the Midheaven that drive goes straight into work, so many astrocartographers rate it for a launch. It fits the first hard years better than the steady running of a company later, when the pace and the clashes can wear on the people around you.
