What the Moon MC line means
The Moon overhead makes you visible through care, mood and belonging rather than achievement. Work with the public, with families, food, housing or anything people need daily tends to flourish. Your reputation here follows your emotional state closely, which is a gift when you are steady and a liability when you are not.
The Moon on the Midheaven is the old signature of popularity. The Sun MC gets you respected; the Moon MC gets you liked by people you'll never meet, which is a different thing and sometimes a more useful one. A cafe with regulars, a shop, local radio, a market stall, a nursery, a seat on the town council: anything that lives on the goodwill of ordinary people does well on this line, family firms especially, since the Moon is family as well as public.
The Moon waxes and wanes, and careers here tend to run in phases: busy seasons and quiet ones, a following that swells and thins. Freelancers and seasonal trades cope with that better than anyone who needs the same salary every month.
Where it runs
The Moon MC line runs from pole to pole along a single meridian of longitude. Everywhere on it, Moon was on the meridian at the top of its daily arc when you were born. Your Moon IC line is the other half of the same circle, 180° of longitude away.
Distance and birth time
A line is a band, not a wall. Zenith Map's scores count a line in full on it, about 60% at 250 km, about 14% at 500 km and not at all beyond 1,000 km. Astrocartographers draw the edge in different places; the methodology page gives the reasoning for this one.
Every line in a chart moves west by a quarter of a degree of longitude for each minute later the birth: about 28 km at the equator and 14 km at 60° latitude. A time rounded to the nearest quarter hour can put your Moon MC line up to about 200 km from where it's drawn, which is why the map draws bands when you say the time is approximate.
Questions
What careers suit the Moon MC line?
Work with the public, above all. Hospitality, food, retail, property, childcare, care work, local media and family businesses are the obvious fits. The tradition treats it as a line of popularity, not authority: it favours being liked by many over being respected by a few, and the work tends to come in seasons instead of a steady climb.
Does the Moon MC line make you popular?
It's read that way. The Moon stands for the public, and on the Midheaven it puts you in front of them, so people tend to warm to you and remember how you made them feel. Popularity of that kind follows the public's mood, and it can cool as quickly as it came.
Is the Moon MC line better than the Sun MC line for a career?
For some careers. The Sun MC stands for status and personal recognition, which fits leading something and building a name. The Moon MC is popularity and public goodwill, the better match for trades that serve people every day and rely on them coming back.
