Sun MC line
Visibility and recognition. The Sun MC line (Midheaven) runs through the places where Sun was at the top of its daily arc when you were born.

What the Sun MC line means
Your Sun overhead puts you in the light. Work done here tends to be seen, named and remembered, and people treat you as someone with authority before you have earned it locally. It suits launching, leading and being the face of something. The cost is exposure: mistakes are public too, and the pressure to perform can crowd out rest.
Of the four Sun lines this is the public one, and the recognition it brings is personal. People remember you, not the firm you work for, which suits the self-employed, performers, founders and anyone whose next job depends on being known by name. Astrocartographers send people here to put their name on something: the job with the title, the studio with your name over the door, the talk, the seat on the committee.
What you get recognised for is whatever your natal Sun already does. A Sun in the sixth house gets known for being very good at the job, one in the fifth for the creative or playful side, one conjunct Saturn for being the serious, dependable one, and later than you'd like.
A visit uses it well too. A launch, an exhibition opening or a conference talk timed for a Sun MC city puts the line to work for a week, and plenty of astrocartographers use it that way, as somewhere to show your work more than somewhere to live.
Where it runs
The Sun MC line runs from pole to pole along a single meridian of longitude. Everywhere on it, Sun was on the meridian at the top of its daily arc when you were born. Your Sun IC line is the other half of the same circle, 180° of longitude away.
Distance and birth time
A line is a band, not a wall. Zenith Map's scores count a line in full on it, about 60% at 250 km, about 14% at 500 km and not at all beyond 1,000 km. Astrocartographers draw the edge in different places; the methodology page gives the reasoning for this one.
Every line in a chart moves west by a quarter of a degree of longitude for each minute later the birth: about 28 km at the equator and 14 km at 60° latitude. A time rounded to the nearest quarter hour can put your Sun MC line up to about 200 km from where it's drawn, which is why the map draws bands when you say the time is approximate.
Questions
Is the Sun MC line good for career?
It is the line most associated with recognition: being named, promoted, put in charge or put on a stage. It favours careers built on a personal reputation and asks you to accept being watched while you work. Other lines crossing the city still count, since the Sun MC sets the tone without deciding everything.
Does the Sun MC line make you famous?
No line makes anyone famous. The Sun MC is read as raising the visibility of what you already do, so your work gets noticed and attached to your name more readily than elsewhere. If nothing you do is public, the line has little to show.
How accurate does my birth time need to be for the Sun MC line?
More accurate than most people's are. Every minute of birth time moves the line a quarter of a degree of longitude, west for a later time and east for an earlier one, which is about 28 km at the equator. A time rounded to the nearest half hour can be fifteen minutes out, which puts the line close to four degrees away. When the time is uncertain, Zenith Map draws the line as a band, and a city inside the band may or may not be on it.
