Saturn MC line
Authority earned slowly. The Saturn MC line (Midheaven) runs through the places where Saturn was at the top of its daily arc when you were born.

What the Saturn MC line means
Saturn overhead asks for discipline and pays in standing. Work here is demanding, recognition is delayed, and responsibility arrives before reward. Those who stay build careers with real foundations and are treated as serious people. It is a line for ambition with patience, and a hard one for anyone hoping to be carried.
The Saturn MC line is the slowest career line on the map. The first year or two can feel like being passed over: your work is checked more closely, your title lags behind what you actually do, and the people above you test you before they trust you. By the textbook, that is the line doing its job.
Saturn rules authority, institutions and anything built for the long term, so the line favours careers with a ladder and a long horizon: the civil service, architecture, academia, the law, engineering, the family firm you're expected to take over one day. A quick win, or a change of career you need settled by next spring, is the wrong thing to bring to it.
Natal Saturn decides a lot. Well placed, in Capricorn, Aquarius or Libra or in easy aspect to the Sun, it makes the line hard but fair. Tied into a square with the Sun or Moon, it turns the line into the boss you can't please.
Where it runs
The Saturn MC line runs from pole to pole along a single meridian of longitude. Everywhere on it, Saturn was on the meridian at the top of its daily arc when you were born. Your Saturn IC line is the other half of the same circle, 180° of longitude away.
Distance and birth time
A line is a band, not a wall. Zenith Map's scores count a line in full on it, about 60% at 250 km, about 14% at 500 km and not at all beyond 1,000 km. Astrocartographers draw the edge in different places; the methodology page gives the reasoning for this one.
Every line in a chart moves west by a quarter of a degree of longitude for each minute later the birth: about 28 km at the equator and 14 km at 60° latitude. A time rounded to the nearest quarter hour can put your Saturn MC line up to about 200 km from where it's drawn, which is why the map draws bands when you say the time is approximate.
Questions
Is the Saturn MC line bad for career?
For quick success it's a hard line; for a long career, often a good one. The tradition gives it slow recognition, close scrutiny and responsibility before reward, followed by standing that lasts. Institutions and the professions are where it pays best, and it's a poor fit for a career that needs fast results or easy praise.
Why would anyone choose to live on a Saturn line?
For what it builds. Saturn lines stand for discipline, focus and authority that holds, so people pick the MC line on purpose for long projects: a doctorate, a professional qualification, a business meant to outlast them, or a career where being taken seriously counts for more than being liked.
How long does a Saturn MC line take to pay off?
Astrocartography gives no timetable. What Saturn gives is said to arrive late and last, so a Saturn MC line is judged over years rather than months, and most astrocartographers treat the opening stretch as the hardest.
Saturn MC vs Jupiter MC: what's the difference for career?
Jupiter overhead brings trust and expansion early, with the risk of taking on too much. Saturn overhead brings authority late, with delay and frustration on the way. One fits someone ready to be backed now, the other someone prepared to build for years.
