Saturn DSC line
Committed, demanding others. The Saturn DSC line (Descendant, often written DC) runs through the places where Saturn was setting on the western horizon when you were born.

What the Saturn DSC line means
Saturn setting brings partners who are older, steadier or stricter, and relationships that are serious from the start. Commitments here last, and so do their obligations. It suits marriage with intention and business with contracts, and it suits nobody who wants things light.
Courtship is slow on this line. Partners want to know your intentions, your work and your family before your favourite film, and a first date can feel more like an interview than a night out. For someone tired of relationships that never settle, that's the appeal.
Because Saturn rules age and time, the line leans towards relationships that begin later in life: partners with a past, second marriages entered with clearer eyes than the first, couples who met at forty and planned accordingly.
The business side is easier. Contracts belong to the same angle, and Saturn there means partners who check every clause, deals that close slowly and agreements that hold. A Venus or Jupiter line running near the place softens all of this, and is worth looking for before you rule a city out.
Where it runs
The Saturn DSC line is a curve, not a straight line. It crosses the equator 90° of longitude east of your Saturn MC line. Away from the equator it swings towards the IC line in the hemisphere Saturn was on that day (north or south of the celestial equator) and towards the MC line in the other, and it ends where it meets them. Everywhere on it, Saturn was setting when you were born.
Saturn's declination, how far north or south of the celestial equator it sits, decides where its rising and setting lines stop: at 90° of latitude minus the declination. For births between 1930 and 2025 it ran from 22.8° S to 22.8° N, so in some charts those lines end as close to the equator as about 67° of latitude, north or south. Beyond that point Saturn didn't rise or set at all on the day you were born, while the MC and IC lines carry on to the poles.
Distance and birth time
A line is a band, not a wall. Zenith Map's scores count a line in full on it, about 60% at 250 km, about 14% at 500 km and not at all beyond 1,000 km. Astrocartographers draw the edge in different places; the methodology page gives the reasoning for this one.
Every line in a chart moves west by a quarter of a degree of longitude for each minute later the birth: about 28 km at the equator and 14 km at 60° latitude. A time rounded to the nearest quarter hour can put your Saturn DSC line up to about 200 km from where it's drawn, which is why the map draws bands when you say the time is approximate.
Questions
Is the Saturn DSC line bad for relationships?
It's hard on casual relationships and kind to committed ones. Astrocartography reads it as bringing older, steadier or stricter partners, and commitments that take their time to form and then hold. Some people who want marriage or a long partnership pick it for exactly that reason; anyone after something light, quick or free of obligation will feel the drag. Venus and Saturn in your natal chart shape how it plays out.
Will I meet an older partner on my Saturn DSC line?
Older, or older in manner. The classic picture of Saturn setting is a partner who is more mature, established or reserved than you, or a relationship with an age gap or a serious purpose. It describes who tends to turn up, not a rule about anyone's birth year.
Should I avoid my Saturn DSC line?
Not automatically. If you want commitment more than romance, it may be the line to look for rather than avoid. First make sure the line is where you think: when you aren't sure of your birth time, Zenith Map draws it as a band, and a city inside that band may or may not sit on the real line.
