What the Moon DSC line means

The Moon setting draws people who want to care for you and be cared for. Relationships here are intimate, domestic and protective, often quickly so. It favours partnership, family life and close collaborations built on trust. Dependence is the risk: make sure the closeness goes both ways and leaves room for your own life.

On the Moon DSC people let you in quickly. The invitation to Sunday lunch comes early, friends become the kind you'd give a key to, and a partner may want you to meet their family before you've met their friends. Relationships here have a domestic texture: you cook for each other, share a flat, look after each other's children or parents, and the partner tends to arrive with the whole household attached.

Because the Moon is mood, moods travel at close range on this line. A partner's bad week becomes yours faster than it would elsewhere, and a home shared here does well with rooms whose doors shut.

Where it runs

The Moon DSC line is a curve, not a straight line. It crosses the equator 90° of longitude east of your Moon MC line. Away from the equator it swings towards the IC line in the hemisphere Moon was on that day (north or south of the celestial equator) and towards the MC line in the other, and it ends where it meets them. Everywhere on it, Moon was setting when you were born.

Moon's declination, how far north or south of the celestial equator it sits, decides where its rising and setting lines stop: at 90° of latitude minus the declination. For births between 1930 and 2025 it ran from 28.7° S to 28.7° N, so in some charts those lines end as close to the equator as about 61° of latitude, north or south. Beyond that point Moon didn't rise or set at all on the day you were born, while the MC and IC lines carry on to the poles.

Distance and birth time

A line is a band, not a wall. Zenith Map's scores count a line in full on it, about 60% at 250 km, about 14% at 500 km and not at all beyond 1,000 km. Astrocartographers draw the edge in different places; the methodology page gives the reasoning for this one.

Every line in a chart moves west by a quarter of a degree of longitude for each minute later the birth: about 28 km at the equator and 14 km at 60° latitude. A time rounded to the nearest quarter hour can put your Moon DSC line up to about 200 km from where it's drawn, which is why the map draws bands when you say the time is approximate.

Questions

Is the Moon DSC line good for love?

For love of the close, domestic kind, yes. Tradition pairs the Moon on the Descendant with caring, protective partners who are quick to make a home with you. It's less about attraction or excitement than about feeling looked after, and it's best for people who want a settled relationship more than a thrilling one.

Which is the better love line, Moon DSC or Venus DSC?

The Venus DSC is attraction, charm and pleasure in each other's company. The Moon DSC is comfort, care and feeling at home with someone. For a romance, the Venus line; for a household, the Moon.

Why do relationships move fast on the Moon Descendant line?

The Moon is the planet of home and belonging, and on this angle it colours the people you meet. The line's reputation is for relationships that turn domestic early: moving in, meeting families, sharing routines within months. The speed is the character of the line, not a warning sign, though it is sensible to check the closeness suits you both.

Does the Moon DSC line bring close friends?

Yes, and warmly. The Descendant rules every close tie with one other person, friendships included, and friends made on the Moon DSC tend to become family: the people you spend holidays with and ring when something goes wrong.
