Moon–Venus crossing

A soft place to land. Where a Moon line crosses a Venus line on your map, both planets were on angles at the moment you were born, and the latitude through that point is a Moon–Venus paran.

What the Moon–Venus crossing means

In the old doctrine of sect the Moon is the light of the night and Venus its benefic, so Moon–Venus is the softest pairing on the map, two planets on the same side with nothing between them to grate. The crossing is read for comfort more than excitement: a home you like coming back to, friends who feed you, a face people warm to, and an easy affection that shows in small things first.

For Moon–Venus, the meetings with the house in them are the ones to look for. Venus on the IC crossing a rising Moon gives a pretty, well-used home and a body that relaxes in it, good for furnishing a first place or for getting over a hard few years. The Moon on the IC with Venus setting brings a partner who turns the house into a home. With Venus on the MC and the Moon setting, work in food, beauty, interiors or hospitality comes through people who already like you.

What Moon–Venus lacks is any push. Neither planet asks you to do anything hard, so the crossing suits a stretch of rest or a settled family life better than a career sprint, and comfort eating and putting off awkward conversations are the habits it encourages. A Moon in Capricorn or Scorpio, or a Venus in Virgo or Aries, brings its own difficulty to the crossing, and the crossing won't smooth it over.

Where they meet on your map

Your Moon MC and IC lines run from pole to pole, and so do your Venus ones, so those four never meet. Each of them crosses the other planet's rising and setting curve once, which makes up to four crossings of a meridian line with a horizon line, and the rising and setting curves of the two can cross each other as well. Where they fall depends on the moment you were born: every chart has them, though some land in the middle of an ocean or too near a pole to be drawn.

At a crossing both planets were on angles in the same place at the same moment. Move east or west along that latitude and the same two still reach their angles together, only at another time of day, so astrocartography reads the whole latitude as a Moon–Venus paran. Zenith Map draws it as a band 1° (about 110 km) either side, and its weight in a place's score fades with distance from the latitude.

Birth time

A wrong birth time moves every line, and the crossings with them: an hour's error puts each crossing 15° of longitude east or west, more than 1,600 km at the equator. Paran latitudes usually stay put, because they depend on where the two bodies were in the sky rather than on the time of day, but the Moon is the exception. It moves about half a degree an hour against the stars, so an hour's doubt shifts a Moon paran's latitude by around three quarters of a degree, sometimes two or more, which is enough to take it off a city. With the Moon in the pair, both the crossing and the paran need a good birth time. What a doubtful birth time does to a map.

Questions

Is the Moon–Venus paran good for love?

For tender, domestic love it's one of the kindest latitudes on the map, especially where one of the two sits on the Descendant. The tradition reads it as affection and looking after each other more than passion. For the spark, a Venus–Mars spot does more.

Is the Moon–Venus crossing a good place to live?

For daily life it's among the easiest crossings, with home, food, friends and appearance all getting gentle attention. The trade-off is drive, since nothing here pushes you. It suits recovering, resting or raising a family more than building something hard.

How exact is a Moon–Venus paran latitude?

Less exact than most parans, because the Moon moves about half a degree an hour against the stars. An hour of doubt in your birth time shifts a Moon paran by about three quarters of a degree of latitude as a rule, roughly 80 km, and sometimes by 2° or more. With a birth time from memory, treat the latitude as a broad band before choosing a city on it.
