Uranus ASC line
Freedom and surprise. The Uranus ASC line (Ascendant, often written AC) runs through the places where Uranus was rising on the eastern horizon when you were born.

What the Uranus ASC line means
Uranus rising makes you more independent, inventive and electric, and others find you intriguing or hard to pin down. Good for reinvention, for shaking off old roles, for meeting people unlike you. Nerves, insomnia and impulsive decisions are the price of all that voltage.
On your Uranus ASC the urge is to stop being who people expect: new clothes, a different haircut, a new answer when someone asks what you do. You stand out a little on this line and mind it less than you would at home; being the odd one in the room starts to feel like the point.
That makes it a strong place for a year abroad, an artist's residency or a stretch of remote work after a period of feeling boxed in. Locals may find you hard to place, which is often half the reason for going.
Decide slowly on a fast line. The resignation letter, the long lease and the tattoo can all wait until the novelty has worn off a little.
Where it runs
The Uranus ASC line is a curve, not a straight line. It crosses the equator 90° of longitude west of your Uranus MC line. Away from the equator it swings towards the IC line in the hemisphere Uranus was on that day (north or south of the celestial equator) and towards the MC line in the other, and it ends where it meets them. Everywhere on it, Uranus was rising when you were born.
Uranus's declination, how far north or south of the celestial equator it sits, decides where its rising and setting lines stop: at 90° of latitude minus the declination. For births between 1930 and 2025 it ran from 23.7° S to 23.7° N, so in some charts those lines end as close to the equator as about 66° of latitude, north or south. Beyond that point Uranus didn't rise or set at all on the day you were born, while the MC and IC lines carry on to the poles.
Distance and birth time
A line is a band, not a wall. Zenith Map's scores count a line in full on it, about 60% at 250 km, about 14% at 500 km and not at all beyond 1,000 km. Astrocartographers draw the edge in different places; the methodology page gives the reasoning for this one.
Every line in a chart moves west by a quarter of a degree of longitude for each minute later the birth: about 28 km at the equator and 14 km at 60° latitude. A time rounded to the nearest quarter hour can put your Uranus ASC line up to about 200 km from where it's drawn, which is why the map draws bands when you say the time is approximate.
Questions
What does the Uranus ASC line feel like?
On the Uranus Ascendant you feel less tied to old habits and more willing to experiment with how you look and live, and other people find you surprising or hard to pin down. The common price is impatience and a habit of deciding quickly.
Uranus ASC or Uranus MC line: which is better?
They change different things. The Uranus ASC works on you: manner, habits, how you come across. The Uranus MC works on your career and public standing. For a personal reset after years of feeling stuck, most astrocartographers would try the Ascendant line first; for a change of work, the MC.
