Crossings
Sun–Mars crossing
Nerve, stamina and a short fuse. Where a Sun line crosses a Mars line on your map, both planets were on angles at the moment you were born, and the latitude through that point is a Sun–Mars paran.

What the Sun–Mars crossing means
Put the Sun and Mars on angles together and astrocartography reads a place where you decide first and explain afterwards. Will and appetite pull the same way: you train harder, push the project through, say the difficult thing in the meeting instead of the corridor afterwards. People pick a Sun–Mars paran on purpose for a training block, the first year of a business or a stretch of work with a deadline that won't move.
The angles decide who gets the heat. The Sun MC across Mars rising makes you known as the one who fights for things, which suits a founder, a campaigner or a surgeon better than a diplomat. Mars on the MC with the Sun setting puts the competition in your field and the strong character in your partner, often the same person. With the Sun rising and Mars setting, you're on one side of the room and an opponent is on the other, good for sport and litigation and hard on a marriage. The Sun on the IC across Mars on the horizon turns it on the house: renovations, a family business run at full speed, and rows at the kitchen table.
The Sun gives Mars more fuel, and that's the catch. Tempers shorten, rest comes last, and the old texts tie Mars to cuts, burns and accidents from rushing, which in practice means slowing down with tools and on the road. A natal square or opposition between the two gets louder here, while for a night birth the tradition counts Mars as the milder of the malefics.
Where they meet on your map
Your Sun MC and IC lines run from pole to pole, and so do your Mars ones, so those four never meet. Each of them crosses the other planet's rising and setting curve once, which makes up to four crossings of a meridian line with a horizon line, and the rising and setting curves of the two can cross each other as well. Where they fall depends on the moment you were born: every chart has them, though some land in the middle of an ocean or too near a pole to be drawn.
At a crossing both planets were on angles in the same place at the same moment. Move east or west along that latitude and the same two still reach their angles together, only at another time of day, so astrocartography reads the whole latitude as a Sun–Mars paran. Zenith Map draws it as a band 1° (about 110 km) either side, and its weight in a place's score fades with distance from the latitude.
Birth time
A wrong birth time moves every line, and the crossings with them: an hour's error puts each crossing 15° of longitude east or west, more than 1,600 km at the equator. The paran latitude hardly moves, because it depends on where the two planets were in the sky rather than on the time of day; in the engine's test charts an hour shifts it by about a tenth of a degree or less nine times out of ten. With an uncertain birth time, trust the paran before the crossing. What a doubtful birth time does to a map.
Questions
Is the Sun–Mars crossing bad?
No, it's a hard-working place more than a bad one. Astrocartography reads it as courage, stamina and decisiveness with shorter tempers and less rest, which suits a deadline or a competition better than a quiet life. How hot it runs depends on Mars in your natal chart, especially any square or opposition to the Sun.
Is the Sun–Mars paran good for athletes?
It's one of the classic placements for training and competition, since the tradition reads it as more drive, more stamina and less hesitation. Meetings with Mars rising, or with the Sun rising under Mars on the MC, are the ones most tied to physical performance. The same push makes overtraining easy, so plan rest days as deliberately as the sessions.
Does a Sun–Mars crossing mean more arguments?
Often, in the sense that you're quicker to say what you think and slower to let things go. Where Mars is on the Descendant at the meeting, the arguments tend to be with partners and rivals; on the IC, at home. Disagreements also get settled faster here, which some people prefer to a polite stalemate.
