Sun–Uranus crossing

A self your old town wouldn't recognise. Where a Sun line crosses a Uranus line on your map, both planets were on angles at the moment you were born, and the latitude through that point is a Sun–Uranus paran.

What the Sun–Uranus crossing means

Uranus moves slowly and the Sun is the part of you that wants to be recognised, so a Sun–Uranus crossing is read as the place where you break with the version of yourself everyone expects. People come here after years of being the reliable one, or to drop a role the family handed them. The Sun MC across Uranus rising is the career swerve: self-employment, a change of field, work in technology, science or anything new enough that nobody has rules for it yet. Uranus on the MC with the Sun rising puts you in a field that's changing fast and makes you the outsider in it, which can be an advantage. With Uranus on the IC or the Descendant at the meeting, the surprises arrive at home or through the people you get close to.

Sun–Uranus charges for all that in stability. Addresses, incomes and plans change at short notice, sleep runs light and nerves run high, and the freedom that felt like fresh air in the first months can start to feel like having no ground. Uranus spends about seven years in a sign, so the natal aspect to your Sun matters more than its sign; a conjunction, square or opposition makes this crossing loud, and a Uranus that touches nothing personal makes it a mild one. It's a better place for a year of reinvention than for raising small children.

Where they meet on your map

Your Sun MC and IC lines run from pole to pole, and so do your Uranus ones, so those four never meet. Each of them crosses the other planet's rising and setting curve once, which makes up to four crossings of a meridian line with a horizon line, and the rising and setting curves of the two can cross each other as well. Where they fall depends on the moment you were born: every chart has them, though some land in the middle of an ocean or too near a pole to be drawn.

At a crossing both planets were on angles in the same place at the same moment. Move east or west along that latitude and the same two still reach their angles together, only at another time of day, so astrocartography reads the whole latitude as a Sun–Uranus paran. Zenith Map draws it as a band 1° (about 110 km) either side, and its weight in a place's score fades with distance from the latitude.

Birth time

A wrong birth time moves every line, and the crossings with them: an hour's error puts each crossing 15° of longitude east or west, more than 1,600 km at the equator. The paran latitude hardly moves, because it depends on where the two planets were in the sky rather than on the time of day; in the engine's test charts an hour shifts it by about a tenth of a degree or less nine times out of ten. With an uncertain birth time, trust the paran before the crossing. What a doubtful birth time does to a map.

Questions

Is the Sun–Uranus crossing good for starting a business?

For an independent or unusual venture, it's one of the better places on the map, since the tradition reads it as originality, independence and a readiness to break with how things are done. It's weaker on steady income, so a business that needs predictable cash in its first years may find it hard going. The meetings with the Sun on the MC are the strongest for work.

Does the Sun–Uranus paran bring sudden changes?

That's the classic reading: changes of job, address or direction that come quickly and often from outside. How loud it gets depends on whether Uranus aspects your Sun at birth. People who went looking for a change usually welcome it; people who wanted to settle usually don't.
