Neptune lines
The four lines on your map where Neptune was on an angle when you were born: overhead, underfoot, rising and setting.
Neptune in astrocartography
Neptune governs the things that are hard to hold in your hand: music, imagination, faith, compassion, the pull of the sea, and the fog that hangs over all of them. It spends about fourteen years in each sign, so nearly everyone born between 1984 and 1998 has it in Capricorn, and the sign says more about your generation than about you. On the map it matters by where its lines run, because on them Neptune sits on an angle of the relocated chart and gets into daily life.
The MC line puts that inspiration and that fog into your career and reputation, the IC into home and family, the Ascendant into your own body and manner, and the Descendant into the people you love and work with. All four are generous to artists, healers and anyone who needs rest, and hard on paperwork. People seek out a Neptune line for a retreat, a stretch of painting or composing, or a spiritual practice; few choose one to run a company from. When your birth time is only approximate, Zenith Map draws each line as a band rather than a single stroke, which is the honest way to read a Neptune line anyway.
Neptune MC line: vision and vagueness
Neptune overhead can make you a symbol: artists, healers, spiritual teachers and people in film and music often do their most inspired work here. The same line blurs: reputations dissolve as easily as they form, promises mislead, and clarity about money and roles is hard to keep.
Neptune IC line: dreaming at home
With Neptune beneath you, home becomes a sanctuary and a fog. Imagination, retreat, sea air, spiritual practice and quiet creativity thrive.
Neptune ASC line: porous and inspired
Neptune rising softens the self. You are more sensitive, more imaginative and more easily moved, and others project onto you freely.
Neptune DSC line: idealised others
Neptune setting brings romantic, artistic or spiritual partners, and the strong tendency to see them as you wish rather than as they are. Relationships here can be transcendent and can be illusions.
Where the lines run
Neptune's declination, how far north or south of the celestial equator it sits, decides where its rising and setting lines stop: at 90° of latitude minus the declination. For births between 1930 and 2025 it ran from 22.4° S to 11.8° N, so in some charts those lines end as close to the equator as about 68° of latitude, north or south. Beyond that point Neptune didn't rise or set at all on the day you were born, while the MC and IC lines carry on to the poles.
